Being Funny is Big Business: Meet Andrew Alexander

In this blog post, we will explore the life of comedian Andrew Alexander and how he managed to turn his passion for comedy into a lucrative business empire.

Who is Andrew Alexander Anyway?

If you are a fan of comedy shows there is a good chance that you know of Andrew Alexander.

When Andrew Alexander graduated from high school, he wanted to go into the theater. But he was told that with his “big nose and big ears,” he would never make it as an actor.

It was then that he decided to go into the Comedy industry rather than Theater. He started in Chicago, doing everything from serving as a box office attendant at nightclubs to performing improv and stand-up comedy all over town.

Building The Comedy Empire

He went to college for a year before dropping out to work at The Second City in Chicago as a house performer. Thus, the comedy star was born! Alexander later produced over 1000 shows for the second city.

Fast Forward to the present, Andrew Alexander is now responsible for producing comedy shows across North America: from Broadway productions like Spamalot and the Blue Man Group.

He was the first person to produce two Tonys in one year, for Broadway’s Spamalot and London’s Monty Python’s Spamalot. His empire is worth an estimated $35 million.

Who says it “doesn’t pay to be funny!”
